  • RYA Olympic Classes National Ranker WPNSA, 10-11 March 2012

This was the first RYA Olympic Classes National Ranker in 2012 and had 10 entries in the 2.4mR class. On Saturday the wind was 8 to 9 Knots. I had good speed and made a great start in the first race. Helena just rounded the first mark ahead, then me with Megan third. I stayed in front of Megan until the final downwind when she managed to get on my wind and out manoeuvred me to take second. The next race was similar although I was third round the first mark but it was close all the way round. My starts were not too good in the next two races with one where I was over and had to return and another where I was going backwards. I again had good speed and thought I sailed well to come through the fleet to finish third in both.

In the first race on Sunday I was over the line again and had to return. I sailed through the fleet, but could not quite catch Craig who finished third. In the final race I was over again although recovered to be third with Craig close behind. Megan retired at the last mark which left me and Craig 2nd and 3rd. I was using a jib that Megan gave me and a new mainsail that I was trying to get used to. My speed was not quite so good but I think I have identified what settings I need to change in these lighter winds. I finished third overall, again only beaten by the two Performance Squad members.

At the age of twelve, I was diagnosed with Freidriechs Ataxia, a degenerative genetic disorder which affects my nerves and muscle co-ordination. I have chosen not to research my condition as I would rather live for today and focus on the life I lead rather than dwell on what might be.

My passion is sailing and my aim is to win the World Championships and when sailing regains its Paralympic status, a Gold Medal.

A Paralympic sailing campaign is expensive and can only be sucessful with help and support from others. I am extremely grateful to those who are helping me so please check out 'Sponsors & Links'. If you think you can offer help or support to my campaign then please contact me or kindly make a donation through the link below.

Please follow my progress through regular updates on this page and more frequent posts on Facebook and Twitter (links below).

I would like to sincerely thank my sponsors without whose help I would not have the possibility to achieve the level of success that I aspire to.
