  • Delta Lloyd ISAF World Cup Event Medemblik Netherlands, 23-27 May

Really nice place and we had great weather. I did not have my usual good speed despite conditions, I thought, should have suited me (quite big waves but a short chop due to the shallow water depth and winds from 10 to 18 knots). This meant I was racing in the pack which was great for getting experience of boat positioning and sailing the fleet, especially with the large windshifts. In all races a tracker was fitted to all the boats and so, after the racing, my dad and I looked through the data analysing what I could have done differently.

It was only towards the end of the Regatta, when I accidently let off my rig tension whilst doing a penalty, that I regained my usual speed! It seems we made a mistake when we first set the boat up at the beginning of the event and put on too much rig tension. This was a great leaning point as it indicated just how critical the rig tension is. Based on this experience we have varied the rig tension in different conditions and now have better settings across the wind strength range.

I finished 17 out of 20. Disappointing but good lessons learnt.

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

At the age of twelve, I was diagnosed with Freidriechs Ataxia, a degenerative genetic disorder which affects my nerves and muscle co-ordination. I have chosen not to research my condition as I would rather live for today and focus on the life I lead rather than dwell on what might be.

My passion is sailing and my aim is to win the World Championships and when sailing regains its Paralympic status, a Gold Medal.

A Paralympic sailing campaign is expensive and can only be sucessful with help and support from others. I am extremely grateful to those who are helping me so please check out 'Sponsors & Links'. If you think you can offer help or support to my campaign then please contact me or kindly make a donation through the link below.

Please follow my progress through regular updates on this page and more frequent posts on Facebook and Twitter (links below).
