  • 2.4mR Inland National Championships Rutland, 27-29 July

This event doubles as the 2.4mR Inland and National Championships. 15 boats attended the three day event. On the first day the wind was 6 knots and less. I was leading the first race by quite a margin, but got caught out on the left when a shift and more pressure came in on the right. I finished 5th. It was close races but I managed to win the other two races of the day. The wind increased a bit on the second day but it was still shifty. I led the first race but did not have the same speed as the previous day. I felt tired and only managed a 5th place. I was fighting for the lead in the next race with Martin Wittingham-Jones but both of us went to the finish one lap early! I dropped to 4th in that one. In the final race of the day I was again struggling a bit and took some risks to catch up but just dropped further back and decided not to finish as my position should have been a discard anyway. There were two races on the final day and with about 18 knots it was the most wind of the weekend. I did not feel well but got into my boat and was promptly sick before I left the pontoon. Whilst looking to set my watch at the five minute signal, another boat hit me and broke my boom. This meant I could not sail the final two races and I had to count my DNF from the previous day. I finished 5th overall and 3rd Paralympic boat.

Will Profile 2.4crop

At the age of twelve, I was diagnosed with Freidriechs Ataxia, a degenerative genetic disorder which affects my nerves and muscle co-ordination. I have chosen not to research my condition as I would rather live for today and focus on the life I lead rather than dwell on what might be.

My passion is sailing and my aim is to win the World Championships and when sailing regains its Paralympic status, a Gold Medal.

A Paralympic sailing campaign is expensive and can only be sucessful with help and support from others. I am extremely grateful to those who are helping me so please check out 'Sponsors & Links'. If you think you can offer help or support to my campaign then please contact me or kindly make a donation through the link below.

Please follow my progress through regular updates on this page and more frequent posts on Facebook and Twitter (links below).

I would like to sincerely thank my sponsors without whose help I would not have the possibility to achieve the level of success that I aspire to.

If your company would like to provide sponsorship or products/services at discounted rates then please contact me.
